The most common material that is used to make fences today, by far and away, is vinyl. While wood is also still a popular option, the popularity of vinyl has risen in recent decades so that it is used on a vast majority of new homes, especially here in Utah. Why has this happened, though? What is it about vinyl that makes it so appealing to homeowners, contractors, and families? Well, here’s a handful of reasons why vinyl fences have become so popular…
Vinyl fences are light and durable
One of the primary reasons that vinyl fences have gotten so popular is because they are an incredibly durable material that can withstand the elements of the outdoors. In general, vinyl is much stronger than most types of wood that are common in fencing. Over time, vinyl is much less likely to wear down and fall apart, whereas wood falls apart quite easily, and wears away. A vinyl fence doesn’t really wear away, and only needs to be replaced, usually, if you actually break it.
Cost effective fencing solution
Another reason that vinyl has surpassed wood in popularity is that it is a very cost effective solution. Typically, a vinyl fence is going to set you back a lot less than a wooden fence, and especially less than an iron fence, which can be insanely expensive. On top of that, there are far less maintenance costs over time, since you don’t need to repaint vinyl or put new coats of treatment on that you would need to for a wooden fence.
Easy to clean and maintain
Like we said above, you don’t need to worry about repainting or adding primer onto a vinyl fence. Vinyl just needs to be cleaned after some rainstorm and wind, but that can be accomplished with a rag and a hose, which is far less work than what has to be done for wooden fences. On top of that, you don’t have to worry about insects working their way into vinyl, like they would with would, and you don’t have to worry about the rusting that occurs on iron fences.
